PRACANA HYDROELECTRIC CENTER
The Pracana dam is located in the municipalities of Mação, district of Santarém, and Vila Velha de Ródão, district of Castelo Branco, Portugal.
It is a concrete dam with buttresses.
The hydroelectric plant consists of three Francis groups with a total installed capacity of 40 MW. The average energy produced per year is 61.8 GWh.
It is located in the Tagus Hydrographic Basin, the Ocreza being its watercourse.
Little is known about this fundamental equipment for the construction of the Dam, to transport the stones between the Tagus River and the area of the Dam.
The few still alive who worked on this equipment, already remember little. According to the stories that have passed over the years, it was stated that on the opening day, the Swiss Engineer who designed the cable car, wanted to travel inside one of the suspended trolleys and make the entire journey between Cascalheira do Rio Tejo in Barca da Alder and the Dam.
The equipment stopped and the cable got stuck, and the said Engineer was suspended one day over the Ocreza River.
They are stories.
The coordinates of three fundamental points remain, which can still be seen in the landscape today. The rest, nature dictated its end.
