🏚️🌿 The House of Zé da Mó
Little is known about the history of this intriguing house, standing in one of the most remote and captivating corners of the municipality of Mação. 🏞️
The site was identified during the survey and mapping of the PR11-MAC - Route of the Forests, part of the Rotas de Mação trail network 🥾, revealing a hidden heritage site surrounded by remarkable natural scenery.
According to local tradition 📖, the house once belonged to the Morgado family, who owned the fertile lands that shaped life in this valley for generations 🌾. It served as the family's main residence until the death of its patriarch, after which the property gradually fell into decline.
Today, it is said that the descendants live in the area of Proença-a-Nova 📍, while the house itself remains wrapped in an atmosphere of mystery and memory ✨.
Over time, the site also became known as the House of Zé da Mó 🧔♂️, named after a hermit who lived here for many years. One day, he left for unknown destinations and was never seen again, giving rise to stories that continue to fascinate visitors.
Beyond its legends, it is the landscape that truly captivates 😍. From this privileged viewpoint, visitors can admire the mouth of the Ocreza River 💧 and its meeting with the mighty Tagus River 🌊, creating one of the most impressive panoramas in the region.
At the foot of the mountain runs the historic Beira Baixa Railway Line 🚂, adding a touch of cultural heritage to a landscape dominated by nature.
