22 TO 26 DECEMBER 1989
Pluviosity forces new discharges to the Fratel and Castelo do Bode dams.
The Tagus River rises again and the storms destroyed most of the seeds.
On the 22nd Fratel and Castelo do Bode unloaded flows of about 5,000 m3 /s. The rains have hardly stopped since November 13th.
The discharges from Castelo do Bode killed the water supply system in Lisbon and the water supply is dependent on the collection and pumping of Valada, which fortunately was not affected because the dikes were not overcome and resisted.
The flood flow in Almourol (Tagus + Zêzere) was 10,082 m3 /s and in Santarém it was estimated at approximately 10,900 m3/s.
On 26th the flow rate of 9,894.2 m3 /s was measured directly at Almourol Hydro Station, with a flow section of 3,463.1 m2 and an average profile speed of 2.85 m/s.
