GEOCACHING POINT
GC8Z2HN-LAGOAS DO TEJO (PR4)
Tejo Lagoons are located on the right bank of the Tagus River, immediately east of the Barreira, Cantarrão, Caracol, Boavista and Morouço Fundeiro fishing grounds.
They are structures dug in metassedimentary rocks by the action of fluvial currents; the passage of the river water wears out more easily the most fragile strips of these rocks, which normally correspond to the orientations of their main discontinuities.
Furthermore, in the riverbed where the lagoons are located there seem to be circular structures in the deepest areas, suggesting that these areas are marmalian.
Associated with the lagoons were several fishing grounds, since when the waters entered the lagoons they would have to turn back as the lagoons were closed in their western part. These conditions were ideal for fruitful fishing.
On the right bank of the lagoons, several folds can be seen on the outcrops of the riverbed which can be described and interpreted in various ways, in addition to being associated with the phases of the Varisca orogeny.
