💧🏞️ Cabril Reservoir Intake System
📍 Located east of the village of Queixoperra, the Cabril Reservoir Intake System is part of the Northern Water Supply Network and serves as the main source of water supply for the Negrelinho Dam, situated in Mouriscas, within the municipality of Abrantes.
🌊 Water is collected from the Rio Frio Stream weir and transported through transmission pipelines with a 600 mm diameter to the Negrelinho Reservoir, which was specifically built for this purpose and has a storage capacity of approximately 12 million cubic metres of water.
⚙️💧 After collection, the water is conveyed to a Water Treatment Plant, where it undergoes a filtration process using slow sand filters. It then passes through contact chambers containing gravel for pH correction before undergoing disinfection and entering the main storage reservoir.
🏘️ From this point, the system supplies the entire lower area of Mouriscas, extending as far as the locality of Carvalheiros.
🚰⛰️ To serve higher elevations, water is pumped to the Lomba Cimeira Reservoir, from where it is distributed by gravity to the upper areas of Mouriscas and Entre Serras. Through a pumping station located there, water is further elevated to the Lercas Reservoir, which supplies the corresponding settlement.
⚡💦 Additionally, a booster pressure system operates at the Lomba Cimeira Reservoir, ensuring adequate water pressure for the highest areas of the network.
👥📊 The population served by this system represents approximately 4.5% of the municipality's population, highlighting its strategic importance for public water supply.
📏🔧 The system includes approximately 16 kilometres of transmission pipelines and a distribution network of around 55 kilometres of pipelines, ensuring the efficient delivery of water from the source to end users.
