4005 - Azenha do Cavaco/Pego do Morena, Envendos
PR7-MAC-ROUTE HOUSES OF RIBEIRA/CARATÃO (2021)
Let's be honest: there is no more bucolic landscape in the municipality of Mação than the one of Azenha do Cavaco. It is halfway between the villages of Caratão and Vale da Mua, less than a kilometre from the main road following a dirt track to there. Early in the morning and at dusk, when the sun rays penetrate between the branches and dive into the clear waters of the small natural pool, the environment becomes almost supernatural. It is undoubtedly a magical place, blessed by nature, which assumes all its splendour here. Don't even stop going.
4013 - Radio Farol Navegação Aerea VOR NISA, Envendos
Don't be fooled by the reference to the town of Nisa, which is on the south bank of the river Tagus: this radio beacon is in the parish of Envendos and our invitation is for you to get to know this VOR, an acronym for "VHF Omnidirectional Range", one of the various types of radio beacon that exist to aid air navigation. Did you know, for example, that a VOR radio beacon emits two signals: one non-directional and the other rotating (directional) aligned with the magnetic north of the Earth?
4026 - Cooperativa Agrícola das Matas, Envendos
PR11-MAC-ROUTE OF MATAS and OCREZA VALLEY (2021/22)
Founded on 21 April 1922, the Cooperativa Agrícola das Matas is the oldest agricultural cooperative in Portugal. Created to satisfy the needs of local producers, it developed focused on the production of olive oil, one of the products that compose the famous three A's of Mação: air, water and olive oil, all of excellent quality. When you arrive at the village of São José das Matas it is easy to see the main building, but if you don't see it right away ask for directions. The locals will like it.
4033 - Former Barca da Amieira-Envendos
PR11-MAC-ROUTE OF MATAS and OCREZA VALLEY (2021/22)
The greatest symbol of the ancient crossings of people, goods and animals from one bank of the River Tagus to the other, carried out since time immemorial - says the legend that the funeral procession of Queen Saint Elizabeth to Coimbra passed there - the old iron barge can still be seen there today. A historical icon for the people of Amieira do Tejo, the old 'barge' now sees the rebirth of this ancestral connection between the two banks. Go and let yourself fall in love with the surrounding area.
4039 - Archaeological and Environmental Park of Ocreza, Envendos
PR11-MAC-ROUTE OF MATAS and OCREZA VALLEY (2021/22)
There are many good reasons for taking more than a few hours in the Ocreza Valley, but cave drawings are for many the main reason. In the Ocreza engravings it is possible to register the presence of human and animal figures, predominating the geometric figures and the pitted spots, the oldest being about 20,000 years. In fact, this is the only site in the Tagus Valley that presents a Paleolithic engraving. Besides the figures, the local fauna and flora are also reasons worthy of a couple of hours of its time. Take the binoculars.
4058 - Queen's Catch, Zimbreira-Envendos
PR8-MAC-ROUTE OF ENVENDOS (2021)
If it is true, which it is, that this is a must-see place for those who visit Mação, it is also true that this is no longer the best kept secret of this region. And it is the fault of the instagram. Why is this so? Take a good look at this waterfall and tell us that you can resist it? Of course! Go on, the hasthag is #pegodarainha and #rotasdemacaooutdoor. ;)
4066 - Roman Bridge of Ladeira de Envendos
Built over the Ribeira da Pracana, in the limits of the village of Ladeira, this bridge is one of the most appreciated Roman remains by those who visit the municipality of Mação. It is supposed to have been finished in the 1st century AD, integrating the old road system that would connect the villages of Idanha and Ródão. The bridge has an inclined deck with six arches of different dimensions, whose staves were arranged radiantly and are well preserved. Did you know that the bridges built by the ancient Romans were the first of great dimensions, and are among the most durable in the world? Many have been remodelled or replaced by newer ones, but many more continue their function exactly as they were when they were built, showing their resistance.
4072 - Buraca da Moura Ladeira, Envendos
If we were to count them, a handful would not be enough to enumerate all the "holes of the Moor" existing in the municipality of Mação, but the one on the outskirts of the village of Ladeira (Envendos) is the most impressive. If you can find it you will understand why. In order not to get lost, the best is to ask someone to accompany you.
4073 - Geodesic Vertex of Castelo Velho (Zimbreira), Envendos
PR8-MAC-ROUTE OF ENVENDOS (2021)
The absolute feeling of lightness and freedom further enhances the wonderful view at the Castelo Velho da Zimbreira. It is undoubtedly the great postcard of the county, fully deserved, not only for the archaeological value of this walled place but also for the amazement of those who climb what remains of the old castro and allow themselves to be conquered by the many charms of its views, starting from the meanders of the Ocreza River and the dam of the Pracana. Situated on a spur overlooking the confluence of the Ribeira da Zimbreira with the Rio Ocreza, once here do not miss the famous Pego da Rainha.
