ROTAS DE MAÇÃO
Activities Plan
Gastronomic workshops, hiking, geocaching and plogging events, ecosystem recovery, an APP and a PODCAST and the homologation of five new footpaths are just some of the initiatives planned for 2021. All the activities aim at the preservation and valorization of the material and immaterial heritage of the municipality and the promotion of nature tourism in Mação.
After the homologation of the first 5 pedestrian routes and the launching of the website www.rotasdemacao.pt, the social organs of the Mação Routes are preparing to present the Plan of Activities for the next year.
Following the work in progress, the plan includes the homologation of five new routes (Almond Route, Casas da Ribeira/Caratão Route, Envendos Route, Penhascoso Route and Cardigos Centro Route) and the presentation of APP for mobile devices (already in testing phase). This application, specially designed according to the security system implemented in the field, aims to alert the user to the main points of interest of the routes, provide relevant information about each one of them and mark the distress beacons available in each route.
In parallel, it intends to advance with geocaching and plogging events (activities that combine the walk with the discovery of caches, in the case of geocaching, and with garbage collection, in the case of plogging), namely during the MOSTRA FAIR of Mação.
The activity plan for 2021 also includes the survey of all local producers, restaurants and accommodations available in the municipality and the availability on the website of a complete database as comprehensive as possible about this tourist offer.
Awareness raising actions will also be promoted among all these partners for the dissemination of endogenous products and regional gastronomy, namely through workshops that will involve, very concretely, the Grouping of Schools Verde Horizonte.
In addition to the comic book mentioned above, the result of the project that invites local people to photograph their village and the podcast (a partnership with Rádio Antena Livre and Jornal de Abrantes) that will gather stories and legends from the villages of Mação will also be presented on the website.
There are also several actions to recover ecosystems, through the creation of tree nurseries and native vegetation, and, whenever communicated, the support to the associations of the municipality in the organization, dissemination and realization of walks.
Finally, we emphasize that due to the pandemic and the current exceptional context, the planned activities may suffer temporary adjustments or delays, impossible to predict at the time.
The monitoring of the work, the agenda of events and other information about the Mação Routes can be consulted through the social networks and also on the website at www.rotasdemacao.pt.
