SIX THOUSAND YEARS BEHOLD US.
It is a mythical site, also known as Anta do Pereiro, integrated in a very vast space full of archaeological remains, history, legends and myths that have populated for years the imaginary of many generations: the D'Ante Valley, the Free Stonemasons, the French Campaign, the route of the 1st French Invasion...
After having been built as a funeral home more than 6,000 years ago, over the centuries it has been subject to the wear and tear of time, the neglect of many generations and its materials used for the most diverse purposes, from construction to the crossing of streams. He saw Romans, Visigoths, Alans, Moors and Christians parading around him... But his space has always remained located and recorded in the collective memory.
Father Henrique da Silva Louro has already referred to it in his "Monografia de Cardigos"(1939) and many other local historians have referred to it. In 2006 and 2007 it was the object of multidisciplinary archaeological excavations supervised by Professor Christopher Scarre of the University of Durham (GB), in partnership with the Mação Museum and other Higher Education entities. In 2018, it was again the object of intervention in order to finish the work in order to present the conclusions to the public and recover the space by reconstructing the tapir as much as possible.
In 2020, "MEGALITHIT TOMBS IN WESTERN IBERIA. Excavations at the Anta da Laginha", coordinated by Professors Chris SCARRE and Luiz OOSTERBEEK. In more than 250 pages illustrated with photographs, maps and engravings we present the results of several excavation sessions carried out already in the 21st century by international and multidisciplinary teams.
On the site, there are some cloaks and traces of the archaeological work carried out in the meantime.
