The walkway that integrates the new tourist project of Mação's municipality, the Fishing and Tagus Lagoons Route,
Installed along the right bank of the river, at the foot of Ortiga, it will be the leading thread of a visit with a viewpoint over the water course, over the traditional fishing grounds and a connection to the Tagus Lagoons. The aim is to "give the river back to the people, to show and preserve the stories, memories and experiences of the people of the municipality, and particularly of Ortiga", where fishing was for decades the main livelihood of families, being besides tradition, part of the identity of a people and an icon of local heritage.
It is a walkway along the right bank of the river Tagus, as a connecting thread of a visit by the river, which allows one to reach the old traditional fishing grounds and which allows one to reach the Lagoas do Tejo, at the bottom of Ortiga, where pastoralism has always been a trademark and where young people used to take the opportunity to bathe during the summer.
One part of the route will be higher, while another will be overlaid on the trail that was once trodden by the fishermen and families who successfully accomplished their livelihood there.
