GC634J7-Percurso das Levadas do Castelo [Mação]
Located at the base of Serra do Bando, the village is known as Castelo de Mação. Headquarters of the Association OS CASTELENSES, one of the Founding Members of ROTAS DE MAÇÃO.
Water is part of the life of these territories. The levadas correspond to a true labyrinth of anastomosed channels derived from a main water outlet. These are mainly to the east of the village and are responsible for transporting water from the mountains to the slopes of the valleys near the Castle, and are increasingly of interest.
The underground water circulation model, which originates the springs and is responsible for feeding the levadas, as well as the superficial water flow model, are often the target of the curiosity of those who arrive from outside.
