At your feet, however long the journey may be, it is impossible to resist the invitation to climb up there. We talk about the main monument of the town of Amêndoa, the famous Cruise, whose views impress even the most demanding travellers. From the foot of the cross erected on top of a stone hill, enjoy the magnificent views from its belvedere and the surrounding landscape.

1010 - Tower of the old Church of Nsa Sra da Conceição (IIM), Amêndoa

A unique remnant of the ancient Almond Mother Church, presumably built in the 17th century, already replacing an earlier temple, this one from the 13th century, both of which have since disappeared, the bell tower of the temple dedicated to Our Lady of the Conception alone deserves a visit to this village. Located right in the centre of the village, at the confluence of several streets flanked by low houses, next to a small garden, we find the secular bell tower which is today one of the treasures of the religious architecture of the municipality of Mação.

1012 - Castro of São Miguel de Amêndoa-Mação (IIN)

In a cocuruto of the so-called Serra da Ladeira or São Miguel, at about 500 metres of altitude, and strategically located between the Tagus, Zêzere and Ocreza basins, we find a national monument of compulsory visit: the Castro de São Miguel. It is one of the main vestiges of human presence in this region - it is believed to have begun to be inhabited 2,000 years BC. - It has been found in this site a varied collection from the protohistoric period. Climbing the ancient fortress, roughly quadrangular with walls about 2m thick, is to receive an invitation to travel through time.

1078 - Well of Mourão, Amêndoa

Not far from the village of Chão de Lopes we find this pleasant place, perfect for some moments of rest and contemplation. To get there, just follow the water channels that used to lead the water to the existing mills by the stream and today guide the adventurers to discover another enchanting place in the municipality of Mação. Whatever the season, the place is magical and involving, inviting, in summer, to dive in the fresh and crystalline waters that run down the stream, unless the year is dry? 1094 - Water Mine at Pé da Serra - Amêndoa

What is the charm of an old water mine? The stories hidden in the cool, damp walls, the lush ferns and the drops of water that spring at every moment from the long corridor dug under the ground. Despised witnesses of the times of old, when every piece of land fed entire families, long before the abandonment of one and the other, the water mines are today the living proof of the depopulation and abandonment of this territory, with so much to show and so much story to share. This, however, in the village of Pé da Serra, will be one of the last springs still in use.
